This spring, you may have noticed many beautiful white flowering trees dotting the Maryland landscape. Rising up from the banks of the highway or clustered in large masses on the fringes of forests, they appear to be the essence of springtime. These are no friendly trees, however. These are non-native species that have become invasive. And, they are steadily contributing to the demise of many of our local flora and fauna.

For those registered to vote, the Montgomery County Board of Elections is mailing a personalized sample ballot, along with all of the information needed to vote in the 2016 Presidential Election, depending on which political party one is registered with and where one lives.

Local cooking school offers classes in preparing elegant and seasonal meals.

Creamy gruyere cheese flows through a box grater followed by long shards of russet potatoes. Both are piled on a platter. The potatoes gain a deep crunch after sizzling in hot oil, the cheese melts on top of the potato crust and the concoction is topped with grassy, deeply green asparagus. Such is the beginning of an asparagus frittata at Terri's Table.

Outside Ventures and Firefly Design, Inc. have partnered to create a vintage art series highlighting places along the Potomac River in and near Washington. Reminiscent of the National Park Service posters created in the late 1930s and early ’40s, these prints feature Great Falls, the C&O Canal Towpath, Key Bridge and Rock Creek Park. On June 7, 1974, the Hungerford’s Tavern Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was founded in Potomac. Ever since the organization was begun, they have provided patriotic service to the nation, the state and community. Their motto, “God, Home and Country” serves to define their mission: dedication to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education.

Potomac: Police Rescue Injured American Bald Eagle

An injured American bald eagle was recovered in the area of River Road and Riverwood Drive on March 3 at approximately 8:45 a.m. According to Montgomery County Police, Animals Services Division Officer Jennifer Gill responded to the area and was met with a resident who had observed the eagle walk into the woods.
