Almost 400 runners and walkers participated in the 3rd annual “Tiger Trot” 5K run/walk held on Sunday, April 14 — a beautiful, sunny breezy day. While many participants came from nearby Potomac and Bethesda, many racers journeyed all the way from Alexandria, Warrenton, Germantown, Kensington, Arlington — and even from Hermosa Beach, Calif., Mt. Penn, Pa., — and points beyond to participate with the friends, family, students, parent, alumnae and faculty of the Connelly School of the Holy Child.

Special Needs Awareness Week at Wayside teaches acceptance and empathy.
“I went into someone's shoes,” said Yoon. “I would feel really frustrated. I'm thankful that I don't have a disability." Yoon’s activities were part of a weeklong Wayside initiative called SNAP (Special Needs Awareness Program), which is aimed at fostering empathy and sensitivity to others in the students.

The Brickyard Coalition submitted questionnaires to all six candidates who are vying for seats on the Board of Education in the November 2012 election. All of the challengers responded to this questionnaire, but neither of the two incumbents responded.

Clyde Eastham Mitchell, was the “Mitch” of Mitch and Bill’s. He died from heart failure Oct. 18 at Kingshire Manor Assisted Living, Rockville. He was 86.

“Hey Beez; Beez, It’s Me”
It was my father all right – in a dream. Standing five feet away, approximately, in a well-lit, local convenience store with which I am extremely familiar. This was no case of mistaken identity. Besides, he was wearing those blue, terrycloth shorts of his that my mother always hated. So yes, I called out to him, surprised as I was to see him, locally as it were.

‘Park After Dark’ Draws Crowds

About 230 people came out to the C&O Historic Great Falls Tavern on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a boot-stompin’ fun-filled evening of music, dancing, chili with all the fixins’, experiential auction items and re-enactments of the Civil War — and all for a good cause. They partied to benefit the C&O Canal National Historical Park.
