Potomac Community Resources, Inc. (PCR), a Montgomery County organization providing programs for teens and adults with developmental differences, recently named Edward Yao 2015 Outstanding Youth Volunteer. The 17-year-old Winston Churchill High School senior received this award in March at PCR’s Annual Patricia Sullivan Benefit Dinner.

In 2013 Yao began his service at PCR with the M&T Bank Basketball Program, which is open to PCR members at all skill levels. He continued with PCR during his senior year, even with his own activities, including swimming, managing homework and preparing college applications. In addition to his volunteer award, Yao received the 2015 Governor’s Merit Award for academic achievement. Yao said his involvement with the PCR basketball program has given him a great opportunity to interact with members of the community while doing something he really loved.

According to Yao’s principal at Churchill High School, Dr. Joan Benz, he is engaged and excels in every phase of student life.

Yao resides in Potomac with his parents, Jiaqin (Jack) Yao and Na Jin. In the fall, Yao will be studying engineering at Duke University.
